KS1 - What have we been reading?

Year 1 have been looking at the author Eric Carle who wrote the book corner favourite The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have read his equally enjoyable picture book The Very Lonely Firefly and explored applying Eric's repetitive writing structure within our own writing. Our next text was actually left by the formidable Evil Pea, who created havoc in our classroom and left us Supertato to read.

Year 2 have been reading ‘The Suitcase’ was chosen so that the children can understand how people can come from lots of different places, and may all be different, but still come together as a family to help each other. It also linked in with our Christian Value of the month, ‘friendship’ and told a story of how strangers are helped in times of need.

KS1 have also been reading lots of Julia Donaldson books for the end of day story. These stories were chosen as the children were familiar with these stories and love to join in with saying the phrases used in the book. This repetitive structure has also been explored through the text, 'The owl who was afraid of the dark'. Tales by Enid Blyton have been explored in each class too. This has helped the children to be exposed to more challenging vocabulary which is always discussed and developed.
